SIA Welcomes New Chairman of Video and Vision Subcommittee

SILVER SPRING, Md.—The Security Industry Association (SIA) has named Jacob Hengel of YourSix as the new chairman of the SIA Video and Vision Subcommittee, according to an association announcement. Jacob Hengel is chief technology officer and board member at YourSix, leading a global team of engineers across the United States and Sweden. He oversees research and development and product, focusing on “building technology that’s smarter, cleaner and engineered to perform at scale,” the announcement says. The SIA Video and Vision Subcommittee reviews, develops, promotes and advocates for the adoption of relevant industrywide standards relating to video. The subcommittee “represents all ecosystem stakeholders that provide security, operational and intelligent video solutions and its scope includes domestic and international video standards activity,” according to the SIA announcement. The subcommittee’s accomplishments and activities include creating the Camera Setup Guide, Comprehensive Guide to Video Retention Regulations in the Cannabis Industry, Digital Video Quality Handbook, Surveillance Camera Image Quality Guide, Streaming Protocol White Paper and Video Quality Standard. Hengel’s foundation “comes from hands-on field work pulling wire, configuring network and server infrastructure and deploying security systems, which gives him a grounded, practical perspective on how solutions need to work in the real world,” according to the SIA announcement. His career grew alongside the evolution of security and telecom in the 2000s. Over more than a decade, Hengel engineered systems for 200+ enterprise customers, designing everything from wide area network architectures and dynamic routing to voice over IP, network security, IP video and virtual networking. That mix of engineering depth and product leadership eventually led him to co-found YourSix in 2015.
